Pancaritat

The “Pancariat” has its origin in a Majorcan medieval tradition, also known as “Third Easter Feast”, by which bread to the poor was provided on “Easter Monday”, at the end of the Holy Week. The origin of the name which means: “Bread with Charity”, “Pa amb Caritat” in Majorcan language. In the region of Andratx, it’s inhabitants and those of the surrounding areas hold a procession up to “Castell de Sant Elm” where a mass is celebrated followed by a popular lunch and by regional dances on the castle’s esplanade with traditional Majorcan instruments such as “fabiols”, “Xeremies” and “Tamborets”.
