Local festivity Mare de Déu dels Àngels

This festivity commemorates an event that took place more than 400 years ago. On the same day, in 1578, the town of Andratx was defended by the women of the town from the siege of the Ottoman pirates, thanks to the mediation of the Virgin Mare de Déu dels Àngels.

The “Festa de Ses Madones” is held every year at the beginning of August. In the ” Festivity of the Mare de Déu dels Angels”, the women (Madones) are picked up, one by one, all over the village on donkeys, and a route is made through the main streets of Andratx.

At the end of the route in the square of Plaza del Pou, the floral offering is made at the Cross of Sa Costa, accompanied by La Balanguera and then the attendees move to the church, where mass is celebrated with the reading of the “Sermón de los Moros” and the “Canto de les Goces”, and finally the whole procession goes to the Plaza de España, where the “Baile de Ses Madones” (Dance of Ses Madones) is performed.
