CCA Andratx

The CCA Andratx is one of the largest centres for contemporary art in the Balearic Islands, as well as in the rest of Europe. It has been listed as one of the most innovative spaces dedicated to the creation and exhibition of contemporary art in Spain. It was founded by Jacob and Patricia Asbaek in 2001 – a couple well known in Danish media circles thanks to their work in the international art world since the 1960s. Their dream was to bring the latest art and talented artists to Mallorca, so they created this impressive 4,000 m² building, with an exterior that follows traditional Mallorcan architecture and blends perfectly into the beautiful natural landscape surrounding it. The interior offers spacious, bright, open-plan spaces that open onto the courtyard like a cloister through large glass doors.

It is situated in Andratx, in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana. CCA Andratx is a unique space that combines art and nature – rarely do the functions of a gallery, exhibition space, artist-in-residence programme and natural surroundings come together in one place.

The Artist-in-Residence Programme is the true heart of the centre, around which activities and programmes are organised. Each month, a one-month residency is offered to four international artists, encouraging them to develop their work freely. Over the past 24 years, more than 1,000 artists from 20 different countries have already benefited from this renowned programme.

Furthermore, one of the main objectives has been to transform the exhibition spaces into platforms closely linked to the artists’ work, offering the opportunity to showcase the pieces created in their studios.

This has resulted in a continuous programme showcasing the most cutting-edge international projects in Mallorca and across Spain.
